Governance

Governance - What the Club is.

Governance is the system by which the Club is directed and responsibly managed. It sets out how decisions are made, how authority is exercised, how responsibilities are delegated, and how accountability is maintained so that the Club’s assets are protected and its purpose is fulfilled for the benefit of its members.

As a registered mutual society, the Club operates within the statutory framework established by Parliament under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. These legal obligations are carried out in accordance with the Club’s Rules, by-laws, and adopted policies.

The elected Committee holds the Club’s formal decision-making authority under those Rules and is legally responsible for the Club’s affairs. In carrying out its duties, it may delegate operational responsibilities to officers, section leaders, staff, or members.

Governance, however, is not the responsibility of the Committee alone. In a members’ club, members collectively shape the governance framework through General Meetings, agreed policies, and active participation in governance development.
